BIO

Corey Wickline is an active freelance trumpet player and teacher in the Southern California area. Born and raised in San Diego, California, Corey started playing the trumpet at 10 years old in 5th grade band. While attending Rancho Bernardo High School, Corey began studying trumpet privately with John Wilds of the San Diego Symphony. Finding an incredible passion for music making and trumpet playing, Corey chose to continue his studies with Mr. Wilds at Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU) as a music performance major. Mr. Wickline earned his degree in Instrumental Performance (B.M.) from PLNU in May 2017.
With a degree in hand, Corey decided to take his education to the next level and continued his studies in trumpet at the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music (CCM). Here, Corey studied with Alan Siebert of the Dayton Philharmonic and Phillip Collins, retired principal trumpet of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Wickline received his graduate degree in Trumpet Performance (M.M.) from CCM in May 2019.
Following the completion of his master’s degree, Mr. Wickline moved back to San Diego where he now teaches privately and performs full time. Mr. Wickline has had the pleasure of collaborating with many music groups and veterans organizations in town, including the La Jolla Symphony, San Diego Musical Theatre, San Diego City Ballet, Pacific Lyric Opera, The La Jolla Brass, Moonlight Stage Productions, MiraCosta College Theatre, Honor Flight San Diego, The Elizabeth Hospice, and more! Making trips to Los Angeles frequently, Mr. Wickline has performed on set at CBS Studios for “The Late Late Show with James Corden,” in addition to recording at the legendary Capitol Records building. Mr. Wickline may also be found marching in the Sunset Blvd Brass Marching Band in fancy Hollywood nightclubs or on the streets of Beverly Hills, or playing corporate events and weddings with the Los Angeles-based top 40s band, Radio Ready. Additionally, Mr. Wickline performs and tours with the indie rock band, “Hey, King!”
In the way of group and private instruction, Mr. Wickline teaches a full-sized studio of trumpet scholars; openings for private instruction are currently limited. Mr. Wickline coaches the trumpet sections at Rancho Bernardo High School, Poway High School, Rancho Buena Vista High School, as well as the brass sections at Coronado Middle School and High School. Additionally, Mr. Wickline teaches a chamber brass class at Coronado School of the Arts (CoSA).
